"Night Must Fall" - at roughly 7 by 13 feet - suggests Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner in its formal vocabulary and thematic use of black and white. The approach, however, is closer to the gestural painter most identified with black and white, Franz Kline. Everything in the painting - the round forms that are almost Ms. Meyer's signature, as well as the slashing gestures - is measured before the paint is applied. The combination of deliberation and immediacy, of soft forms and hard movements, helps give Ms. Meyer's work its conviction."
