Richard Vine recently described the power of immersion in a recent essay he authored about the artist, Eugene Lemay:
"This wish to subject his audience to a kind of vertigo, both perceptual and moral, has led Eugene Lemay to repeated use of visually engulfing displays. Inviting a physical response from viewers who move not only past but through the artworks… a dream that is timeless: the wish not simply to gaze at art but to enter into it, to move among a painting’s people and places and things..."
It is not surprising that Lemay’s newest silkscreen edition encourages the same level of visual engagement. It is stunning to behold the depth of the color field emerging through the multiple layers that meticulously comprise it.
